Help a contractor understand the area before a visit
Clear photos can make an initial concrete leveling inquiry more useful. They show the location of a problem and help a contractor decide what to inspect. Photos cannot establish the cause of settlement, reveal every void beneath a slab or replace an on-site assessment.
1. Take one wide photo
Step back far enough to show the entire affected slab and the concrete around it. Include fixed edges such as a garage entrance, porch, steps or pool coping. For several panels, take overlapping photos so their positions are understandable.
2. Photograph the uneven joint
Take a close-up from the side so the difference in elevation is visible. If it is safe, include a ruler beside the joint. Label any measurement as approximate. Do not stand in traffic, reach beneath an unstable slab or enter an unsafe area to get a measurement.
3. Show water and drainage
Include nearby downspouts, drains, irrigation areas and spots where you have noticed pooling. If you already have photos taken after rain, they may help explain the concern. Do not wait in hazardous weather to document it. Note whether water moves toward the garage, home or pool.
4. Record cracks and access
Photograph visible cracks and gaps, then explain access through gates or side yards. Mention surfaces, landscaping and fixed structures beside the affected concrete. For a commercial property, include access hours, pedestrian use and approximate panel count.
5. Add a short written description
- Property ZIP code and type of slab.
- Approximate dimensions or number of affected panels.
- When you first noticed the change.
- Whether it appears to be changing over time.
- Previous repairs, if known.
- Your main concern: uneven transition, drainage, appearance or access.
Example project note
“One driveway panel near the garage sits below the next panel. Water collects along the joint after rain. The attached photos show the whole driveway, the uneven joint and the nearby downspout. Please assess whether the panel is suitable for lifting.” This is an example request, not a customer testimonial.
Questions for the on-site evaluation
Ask whether the concrete is suitable for lifting, what elevation is realistic, how drainage will be considered and what the written scope includes. Compare pricing factors and lifting methods before choosing a repair.
